Its sound fits its name. Burden of Grief Napalm , is about a man about to die from a lung disease. The labored breathing that begins "One Last Smoke" is heart-wrenching. The term "doom" is apt. Much of what is called "doom" is more like "death", not in the sense of metal genre, but of feeling.

That as a reviewer I was to try to write objectively, like my opinion is fact and not simply a jaded metal guy on the Internet spewing his opinions about records. I think this is impossible for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that we all like certain things and dislike other things. But this record proves my point that one needs to write from a place of opinion. And honestly, I like bands that bring it with intensity and speed. I like staccato riffing and tight technicality and progressive approaches.

Yes there are much worse accusations out there but "Burden Of Grief" is just a little too safe in it's epic doom regimentation to garner top marks.

Even with the intelligently inter-woven theme of a dying man's last moments, concluded by the cold beeping of a life-support machine come the end of "Longing For Oblivion", the ingredients for a great doom experience are somewhat incomplete, leaving us an album for the 2nd tier of the epic doom pantheon.
